Lameboy DS 0.12

Considering it’s been over a year since last version released, there’s not many changes in this version. However I just recently returned to the lameboy project and started with some small issues. It is possible that you won’t need to wait another year for the next release.

Lameboy DS 0.12

Change log:

  • fixed: better interrupt timing (should fix Mario Land 2 boss levels)
  • fixed: multipacket SGB messages (fixes Pokemon R/G/B in battle color overlays)
  • added: backlight of the menu screen is turned off when not used
  • added: fullscreen scaling (ignores aspect ratio)

how do i play games on my dsi i have lameboy on my acekard2i but its not showing any games

Extreme very good, if yo release new more version, I donate $250 for Lameboy Team =)

I love the emulator, but I think it would be awesome if it could save a border previously used and maybe allow the user to force a border on a game whether it was intended to have one or not. Maybe this could be a per game option or a global option. “Force border on games without?” Maybe the end user could use custom border imported from the PC, even.

Definitely needs a palette editor… maybe something similar to how the Super Gameboy let users cycle through presets.

I got all the pokemon games and I have a few friends that I lend my ds to to play them so I use the save states but on pokemon red it seems not to work

Will you ever build a game genie or gameshark into one of your next releases? If you do I’ll be so happy!

hi, i agree with danboy79 i use this wonderfull app to play the pokemon games, and remember from the old gameboy using equalizer cartridge to use cheats like catch other trainers pokemon. this would be awesum if we could use the cheats. i also hav had errors with pkmn red, it saved so far, then the graphics became gargled.

Hello, I’ve noticed after playing games with this emulator for a while that the music sounds a little “off” to me. In particular, I think that the percussion parts of the music are too prominent compared to how it should really sound. I still am very happy with the emulator as it is (and I’m sure you already know about this issue).

Guys, Is it possible to emulate wav sounds, present in some games like Bart’s scape from Camp Deadly and Pokemon Yellow?

This emulator is awesome, but I keep having a problem with it, no matter what game I play: Let’s say, for example, Pokemon Crystal: I save in-game, press X or select SAVE from the lowerscreen menu and shuf off the DS. Next time I play, everything’s fine, the “Continue” option is there like it should be. I keep playing. Once again, I save in-game and then press X like the last time before shutting down the DS. But when I turn on the DS again, and open Pokémon Crystal there is no “Continue” option. This happens with every other game, always after the second time I save. It’s really frustrating. I even try going back to the rom loading menu before shutting of the DS, but I get the same results. I use the NinjaDS cart, maybe the problem is with the cart and not the emulator? Also, one time everything I had in the lameboy folder (where I keep all the games) disappeared. Just like that. That was with the 0.11 version. I downloaded the 0.12 one. The folder hasn’t randomly emptied itself since, but the missing saves problem won’t go away. Any help? Please?

tl;dr: My saves keep disappearing and it’s killing me.

Hello,

I downloaded Lameboy 0.12.
It works fine, but if i download Games, i can’t play them.
I do not know what the game file should be. I have. Nds tried, and. GBA too. Both not working. Does anyone know what the file should be? Thanks for your help!

Jan-Christiaan (or John!)

I am about to get a DSi and just want to know, does this NEED to be on a flashcard, or would also work just by putting it on an SD card and putting that in the SD card slot.

YEEEEEY, thanks a lot for this new version Nutki! This emulator is probably the best for DS to date=D
I’m sure other has noticed that the bottom screen light sometimes turns off under some circumstances.
Can you(If you have time and feel to do it) please fix the sound issues in Zelda Oracle of Ages (don’t know if there is any problem in the other Zelda game Oracle of Seasons).
When Link uses his sword, there is only sound of it in the left speaker. I know it’s not a big deal, but if you feel to fix it, please do it;)

Another thing I have thought about! Can you make the emulator to imitate a gba. Not an gba emulator. I mean like the GBC game was played on a gba. Some games, like the zelda oracle games as an example, has additional features available when they are being played on a GBA instead of a GBC.

TO ROB: No Rob, it won’t work at all, since the SD-slot on the DSi has not yet been hacked to allow homebrew code to be executed. You need to use a DSi compatible Flash-card. And you need to buy one of those which has the ability to upgrade the boot sectors like the M3 Zero, EZ5 for example. There are other DSi cards on the market, but they aren’t fully upgradeable, so they may permanently be disabled by a official DSi firmware update from Nintendo. RIght now that’s the Case, Nintendo recently released a new firmware for the DSi that blocks DSI flashcarts. It is not sure if some of the different kinds of flashcarts will ever been able to work again. Google is your friend, or you can get a lot of help at gbatemp.net also;) Have a nice day^^

To Jan-Christiaan: The file extension should be .gb or .gbc. I don’t know if there are any others.

@McSquid: But the DSi does not. Nintendo removed the GBA Slot (And all coherent Hardware with it) from the DSi.

So, yeah, a LameBoy for GBA games would be nice… For now, I’m just happy my Zelda games are “portable” again 😀 (good work Nutki ;))

Just wondering if you could put in something that will allow Robopon – Sun Version to run on Lameboy.
Keep up the good work!

CORRECTION on my previous comment.
Lameboy does save, It just because mix up in the long name made Lameboy save incorrect, I change the name to short and easy Dos file name, now Lameboy save perfectly. Thanks for very nice work on this emulator.

Hi!

Some little issues, I was wondering if you could implement auto SRAM writing for some roms such as pokemon (if not all roms)

Also I am having major sound emulation problems with the gameboy colour ROM 623 Perfect Dark.

The sound hardly ever plays!

….Can you help me? I want the game in the Lameboy become faster, but my ‘L’ button is broken. Can you make Lameboy that use ‘X’ button to faster the game? I hope you can help me..

ooh thanks KnightFire, hey nutki i was playing pokemon Crystal.. 😀 i just love lameboy..

hey guys..i heard there were still the cpu of the gba on the DSi.. and.. some people says that “it would be possible” run GBA on Dsi “IF” games/roms are on internall memory.. and they have no idea how to get the roms there.. and iw as wondering.. direct download?… what has wrecking crew to say about this 😀 i wanna be replyed

another thing.. what about a “suggestio” page.. so people left there the features they would like to see on lameboy :).. c ya

@dunno: AFAIK, the DSi doen NOT have the GBA processor, as did the regular DS/DSL: their processors just ran at half speed whilst playing GBA games. It’s not the processor we have to worry about, it’s the GBA’s specific hardware that forms the problem. Those parts were removed from the DSi to make room for the extra and internal memory, and of course some other “up”grades. For now, Let’s just wait for the first GBA Emulator, OR until Nintendo Releases the first GBA Game through DSi Shop.

Don’t say I said it’s impossible: It’s just hard to figure out at the moment 😉

Meh, I moved all the game files to the root instead of keeping them in a folder. This seems to have fixed everything.

Let’s hope I’m right. D:

does the leader guy listen to what we say?, if he does i have a question, will you put a gameshark on the next lameboy and will you try to make a GBA emulator.

One thing I would love to see changed would be to move the “delete state” away from “load” I don’t know how many times I’ve accidently deleted a save state because they’re right next to each other. If the save and load states could be mapped to other buttons that’d be awesome but I’m not sure if that’s possible.

Great work!!!!

Im sorry to ask but how does this work? does it auto install when placed in the hardware you use ?

Hey, I would be really nice if Lame boy could also play GBA Games…

@benjamin
You place it on your flashcard, together with some Game boy, or game boy color roms, then start it like a ds rom, select the .gb or .gbc and play

Woot i got it to work for my little bros… They really wanted to play the old pokemon games on there ds.. But there is an issue with saving.. doesn’t seem to save pokemon games.. maybe this could be fixed later on.. other then that it works great

@Kris: Try to shorten the filenames to 8.3 characters, no spaces. Some Flashcards have trouble with long filenames. (Ex. “Pkmn-Red.GB”)

Lucky for me, AceKard does not. 😀

thank you for the new release. i played hours in mario land 2 and could not get into pumpkin zone. now i can.

Could you add a switch on the menu that works like the L button pressed? Or maybe make the L button effect something that is turned on when the L is pressed and off when you press it again later. Because it’s really starting to hurt my hand when I hold L for too long 🙁

Hi,

I just wanted to report some bugs:

– after using turbo mode, the music loses some channels and/or distorts
– trying to save state after having the DS suspended sometimes results in a freeze.

It has random frozing when playing Pokemon: Gold (K) or Pokemon: Silver (K).
When frozing, game says why frozing in Korean.
“이 카트리지는 게임보이 컬러 전용입니다. 게임보이 컬러에서 사용을 부탁드리게습니다.”
Here is translation.
“This cartridge(game) is only for Game Boy Color. Please use it in Game Boy Color.”
I know Lameboy DS is GBC emulator but it frozing!
ver0.12’s frozing rate is less than ver0.11 and ver0.10.
Strangely, game works well at ver0.9, but frame is slow 🙁
FIX IT PLEASE!!!

Many thanks. My sons love the program (Lameboy DS 0.12). They’re 8 and 5 and are totally hooked on Tetris, Catrap, and numerous oldies but goodies. I hope to donate something in October ’09.

Peace from Canada, eh 🙂

I loved this emulator but my favriote GBC game, Pokemon Yellow, sounds don’t work properly. At the start and in the game Pikachu’s voice is gargled up which makes it a total turn off. I am hoping you would put a fix in the next update.

I have seen other people talk about this in the previous two version about the same problem.

Thanks for your support on this emulator.
