Lameboy DS 0.12

Considering it’s been over a year since last version released, there’s not many changes in this version. However I just recently returned to the lameboy project and started with some small issues. It is possible that you won’t need to wait another year for the next release.

Lameboy DS 0.12

Change log:

  • fixed: better interrupt timing (should fix Mario Land 2 boss levels)
  • fixed: multipacket SGB messages (fixes Pokemon R/G/B in battle color overlays)
  • added: backlight of the menu screen is turned off when not used
  • added: fullscreen scaling (ignores aspect ratio)

Thank you. I just discovered Lameboy earlier today when 11 was the latest and now only a few hours later 12 is here!

Just randomly decided to check back here after a few months and bam, the exact same day as an update! Great to here your back on the job man, good luck.

I’m actually having some trouble with this. Maybe you can help. I’m using the G6Real card. When I run lameboy.nds the screen goes white and then black and nothing else happens. I have tried both unpatched(since this card should patch automatically) and patching it myself via instructions in your read me. What am I missing?

What a surprise, I see this before any of the emu sites posted it. I was just looking around the nets for updated emulators for the DS.

Doug,
I have M3 DS real which I believe should work same as G6 real but I dont have a problem with lameboy.nds, however I have had similar problem with other files. I found that most of the time if you run the .nds file through the file browser in DSorganise (another .nds file) it opens better so you could try that!!

Can you fix the bug of the rumble? In games than Pokémon Pinball the Rumble it’s block when it’s activated one.

Hey, thanks for the new update.
I don’t know if you already know,
there is no sound in “Kid Dracula”,
would it be possible to fix it?

Would it be possible to increase the available save-slots to 30 or more instead of 9? Or better yet, let the user choose how many save-slots would be available?

Again, I happened to come on today just to check the feature list of a previous version and there’s an update waiting on the front page. Thank you for all your work on this and for keeping on thinking about the project when so many emulators have been abandoned for so long.

Tried the update and found a bug. Right after I went to save the settings (settings menu on bottom screen), the bottom screen went blank with back-light off and the top screen remained blank with back-light on, but am unable to get the menu back up. To do so, I have to restart the DS.

micro bug: going from 1.5 to fullscreen scaling works. But going from fullscreen to 1.5 scaling doesn’t work.

BUG:
scaling button (y) fails to go full screen just switches between normal and 1.5
RCpro am wont work past first screen
Feature Request:
Color Pallet support for GB games. Goomba Paletted v2.35 supports this and the source which includes premade pallets is located here http://gbatemp.net/index.php?download=5787
This would be the ultimate feature to add to Lameboy and I many would love you for it as this is allready the Best DS emu

YESS! lameboy is not dead…
i hope in the future they will add cheat function…

Hi, i just finished trying out Lameboy on my nephew’s CycloDS card and I LOVE IT!!.. Now, I only have the Supercard SD Slot2 cart. Is there anyway to use it on that? I know I can just copy the GB files to the card and most work fine, but I am only interested in a few SuperGB games with colors intact, which Lameboy supports.

Yea lameboy is good only got it a few months ago then checked today and found new release!talk bout timing. Thankyou for lameboy but just one thing? Gameshark cheats and whatever else their is would be great. Perhaps you could create a seperate database that is available for download then just place it in a folder on the flashcart?

Good news about the release.

One suggestion not connected to Lamboy: update and enable akismet on this wordpress installation, you are getting really bad comment spam.

You have just made this day better, and where I am, it’s 6 o’clock in the morning. I always had a feeling you’d come out with a new version some time, considering how you seemed to have wanted to continue.

Don’t worry about having taken over a year to release this; we all have our share of problems. (Although I kinda got worried after all the bots spammed your other posts)

Anyhow, I’m going to try this out NOW! πŸ˜€

Just for reference, in the previous Lameboy, Road Rage (or Rash, I forgot now), doesn’t boot up. Once I put it back, I’ll retry it on this version.

without being too dramatic πŸ˜‰
Good to have you back! Eagerly expecting new releasaes \o/

Nice to see another update!
Even nicer to see that Megaman 5 is fixed!
Before it would freeze on Saturn’s stage, now it’s playable.

Nice job!

I’m glad it got updated. I’m just hoping that cheat support will be added in the next release.

Great thank you so much, i use it a lot along the nes emu.
I see someone already told about the scalling bug, another thing is: there is no sound in Fortified Zone, don’t think many care but i had to say it πŸ™‚

Y will not scale to full screen, must be done through menu, would be nice to see a fix and possibly an option to save a screen format so it will always boot to that size.

Hmm, I doubt the Y not fullscreening thing is a bug. Just that Nutki forgot to tell it to do it from there.

Also, Road Rash- Same problem as before. Game loads nice and fine, but once you select “Start Race” on the main menu, you see the green fields and stuff, as if you were playing, but the sound goes crazy beserk and nothing moves. It basically freezes.

Conker’s Pocket Tales – Fails to load. Just a black screen.

Super Robot Pinball – When the slot machine minigame comes out, the normal grey graphic still doesn’t display.

These bugs have been occurring since the previous Lameboy.

As a minor footnote, in F-1 Racing, in the actual race, you can see the track’s graphics blinking slightly at first… A minor version of Road Rage’s problem (since both games are the same concept, basically)?

Lameboy forces the DS to backlight on, I had the light off in the main menu but it still turns on when I run lameboy
I have a DS Phat

and yeah, Y button for fullscreen would be nice

Thanks for another great update. Hope you spend some more time to make this emulator perfect.

Hey Nutki,

Your emulator is used by many. Thank you so much to sharing it with everyone ^_^

I can’t wait ’til the next update ^_^

Thanks your awesome project.
I have wait one year….>__<
And there is a bug with gameboy color emu.
Mr. Driller (U) is no sound.

Thanks Nutki~~~~
So happy to see an update and hope everything is good with you

Thanks for your gorgeous work on the project!

I’ve also found some minor bugs that I’d like to report.

Megaman – Dr. Wily’s Revenge (GB) : informations bar (weapon and life number at the bottom of the playing screen) seems to have a problem with layers priorities (Flame Man’s level, for example);

Rayman (GBC) : The intro screen (when Rayman is dancing) is all scrambled;

Rayman 2 – The Great Escape (GBC) : informations bar (like with Megaman) is flickering when you move the character.

I waiting with pleasure a possible future update, it’s a great piece of homebrew you have already done!

First of all, thank you for a beautiful Emulator for the DS! Finally a way to play my beloved Zelda games again! Very nice speed improvement since Version 0.11

First, I can confirm it works on a (European) DSi with the AceKard 2i and DLDI Patch with DLDIrc, though finding the correct DLDI was hard. DO NOT USE THE ACEKARD+ Patch with the AceKard 2i! It might seem it works okay, but trust me, there WILL be issues like corrupted saves, states and games not loading…

Back to Topic, I have a few requests and some bugs:

Bug Found (Somewhat reported): When there is no game loaded, turning off the menu screen will crash the Emulator => The Menu screen cannot be turned on again! This also occurs when you save your settings. Restart the DS to solve this.

Bug Found: Sometimes after a Fast Speed (L Button) or loading a save state or regular save, the sound is all out of sync and sounds terribly glitchy. => A press or Toggle of the Fast Speed mode (L Button) will usually solve the problem.

Bug Found: Keeping the DS Screen closed for a longer period of time (about 5 minutes) crashes the Emulator. => Game screen flashes and turns off again, Menu screen stays off. You need to Restart your DS to fix it.

Bug Found (Already reported): Going back from fullscreen to 1.5 Scaling doesn’t work, the image stays at fullscreen. Also, Y button only allows 1.5 scaling, not fullscreen. Return scaling to normal solves the problem.

Request: Is it possible to display the SGB Border while in GBC mode? Like with “Zelda – Links Awakening DX”, it has a SGB border, but also GBC mode.

Idea: Is Linking via DS Wireless possible in a (distant) future version?

As usual greast release

I do have a problem though, it seems Tom and Jerry in Mouse Attacks! does not work, whenever I load it there is only a black screen.

Also is the any chance for super gameboy support? and will there be features like use a custom border with a game that does not support gbc borders?

Hello, I hope if you’re thinking on adding to the lameboy the link option for play between DSs over WiFi.

Great work so far!! Best GB/C Emulator for the DS imho.

I’d like to see a “Save SRAM immediately” option, though!

Hi nutki, I have been enjoying your emulator ever sense I joined the ds homebrew scene. I knew you were going to release an update soon, and it was exactly what I was expecting of you, fullscreen and the bottom screen turn off. Thanks very much for that. Your emulator is the most stable and compatible out of them all. I’m sure you are already aware of this, but when you put the ds in sleep mode while playing sometimes it freezes the game. Also I was wondering if you were in need of a beta tester, for reference I am currently a beta tester for the iPhone developer ZodTTD’s emulators. Thanks again for the great update! πŸ™‚

I used for a long time version 0.11 and it never work correctly on my NDS Tank (10-15FPS max).

O_O Weird.

I’m now on NDSL with a better Linker (Acekard) et your emulator Work PERFECTLY !!

Can you hope from you others emulators ? (Like SMS/GG) :þ
Best wishes
